As the BookScans Project progressed over the past few years, it soon became evident that changes would often be mandated due to sheer growth. I tried to corral that growth by setting rather narrow limits.

Originally, the scans on the site were meant to be from books that were printed during the first twenty-one years of American mass market paperback publishing, roughly 1939 through 1959. I later expanded the criteria to include 25¢ and 35¢ books printed after that period. My intent was to include "runs" of books to their conclusion; the Dell D-series, for example, and the complete Ace original series of books.

This section contains books that are from publishers that were too small to be included in the original list of 28 that you see on the Database Index Page. It contains publishers that were established in the 1960's, and it also contains images from books published outside the U.S., such as a Harlequin and Collins White Circle (both from Canada).

You're going to see a lot of "Sleaze" books here, as well, especially among Belmont, Macfadden and Zenith.

Since I have opened the site up to include contributed images of books from the 60's, I've had a hard time keeping pace. In just a few months, my "Others" section has grown from a couple hundred to well over a thousand. I will be adding new publishers and new images often.
